In 1876 Joseph A. Jeffrey and others formed a partnership to build the world’s first coal mining machines. That business eventually became The Jeffrey Manufacturing Company. The Company later expanded by acquiring Galion Iron Works, a maker of road-building machinery. In 1974 the Company sold its operating assets to Dresser Industries. Since that sale, the Company has been a private investment company owned by Mr. Jeffrey’s descendants.
